Occupational Medicine faculty identified numerous critically important ‘holes’ in our societal knowledge base for the evaluation and treatment of common disorders. They are performing research to fills those gaps. Examples of these efforts include: measuring prevalence and incidence of diseases in large populations which are systematically examined, defining utility of physical examinations in large populations, development of peer-reviewed evidence-based clinical practice guidelines; performing studies in different populations and for different disorders to determine compliance with and efficacy of guidelines; and assessment of impacts of opioids. These studies are often self-funded by RMCOEH as typical funding sources do not have much interest in funding these efforts.
