RMCOEH to host free seminar: Medical Expert Witness Testimony – Principles and Practice

What: The Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health is hosting a free one-day seminar titled “Medical Expert Witness Testimony – Principles and Practice” aimed at providing valuable insights into providing expert witness testimony and exploring practical strategies for navigating the courtroom. 

When: Friday, Sept. 27, from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Mountain Time

Where: The seminar is available for both in-person and virtual attendance. It will be held at the Mayne Auditorium in RMCOEH’s headquarters at 50 E. 200 S., Suite 100, Salt Lake City, 84111. The Zoom link is: https://utah.zoom.us/j/94989083866

Purpose: This seminar is designed for occupational medicine practitioners, residents, and select doctorally trained OEHS professionals. It will cover essential topics such as:

  • Admissibility of Evidence
  • Methods to Determine Work-Relatedness
  • Evidence of Disease and Exposure
  • Principles of Epidemiology in Legal Contexts

RMCOEH is honored to feature Donald Sinclair II, JD, as the seminar’s special guest lecturer. Sinclair, a distinguished member of the Steptoe & Johnson Emerging Contaminants Team, specializes in occupational and environmental litigation. His expertise spans various sectors, including energy, transportation, and chemical manufacturing. He is well versed in air, water, and soil quality, toxic tort litigation, and the legal aspects of medicolegal causation and scientific evidence. Mr. Sinclair’s credentials include admissions to practice in multiple states, recognition as one of The Best Lawyers in America®, and membership in the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

Other speakers are Dr. Kurt Hegmann, MD, the Director of RMCOEH and a practicing occupational medicine physician, and Dr. Erika Pliner, PhD, an Assistant Professor in the University of Utah Department of Mechanical Engineering and a faculty member in RMCOEH’s Ergonomics and Safety and Occupational Injury Prevention programs. 

CME credits: CME accreditation for this seminar has been requested through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. To receive continuing education (CE) credit, please register for and complete the course titled “MEDICAL EXPERT WITNESS TESTIMONY – PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE” (Course Code: WCWD4904) via CDC TRAIN. The registration code will be distributed at the event. To receive credit, attendees must complete the following by October 27, 2024:

1. Register for and complete the course.

2. Pass the post-assessment with a score of 75% or higher.

3. Complete the evaluation.

4. Access your certificates and transcript via Your Learning.
