Students in RMCOEH's capstone course, Occupational Health and Safety Solutions, had the unique opportunity this month to visit Delta Air Lines at the Salt Lake City International Airport. The experience allowed students to explore real-world worker safety challenges and witness how a global leader in aviation prioritizes employee health and safety.
The Solutions course is required in all of RMCOEH's graduate academic programs and aims to foster interdisciplinary coordination and problem-solving. During their visit to the airport, students observed Delta’s operations firsthand and gained insights into critical aspects of workplace safety, including ergonomics, safety protocols, and rehabilitation strategies for injured workers. The students learned how Delta integrates safety measures into daily operations, ensuring employee well-being while maintaining efficiency. The experience provided a practical glimpse into addressing complex safety challenges in dynamic work environments, a skill that all RMCOEH's students require when they enter the workforce.
In addition to exposing the students to sites that face unique health and safety concerns through site tours like the Delta visit, the Solutions course also provides students with the opportunity for hands-on experience. Students are split into interdisciplinary teams and spend the semester working with real businesses to solve their genuine occupational and environmental health and safety challenges, bridging the gap between the classroom and real-world application.
